This Sunday: Study with the Rabbi!

This Sunday, Feb. 4, please join us for the first in a series of periodic Brotherhood study sessions with Rabbi Feder, focusing on the teaching in Pirke Avot – “The Sayings of Our Fathers.”

These sessions will be held in Rabbi Feder’s office from 9:30 am – 10:45 am, and they're open to all.

And, don't forget: This Thursday, Feb. 8, we're having our special meeting with Richard Mann, West Coast Director of FIDF -- that's Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces. This session is from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm in the Social Hall. Please RSVP to Marc Belsky at belsk5 {at} comcast.net.

Hope to see you at these great Brotherhood events.

They had a ball at the Black & White Ball

Last Saturday night, members of PTS Brotherhood and Sholom Women acted as chaperons at the 2007 Black & White Ball, a high-school-age dance sponsored by PARTY -- that's Peninsula Area Reform Temple Youth.

There were about 250 young adults at the formal dance (I don't have the official count), and quite a few chaperons from Brotherhood/Sholom Women. Several college students also helped with chaperoning.

It's a delight seeing how our young people at PTS are growing up, and it was an honor to be with them during this special event.

Feb. 8: Join Us for Friends of the IDF

The PTS Brotherhood is pleased to host Richard Mann, West Coast Director of Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces (FIDF), for a special event on Thursday, Feb. 8, beginning at 7:00 pm. The event will be in the Lillian Byer Social Hall at PTS.

Friends of the Israel Defense Forces initiates and helps support social, educational and recreational programs and facilities for the young men and women soldiers of Israel who defend the Jewish homeland.

FIDF also provides support for widows and orphans of fallen soldiers. FIDF support includes; building, maintaining and operating 17 modern and sophisticated facilities; establishing and renovating hundreds of clubrooms and fitness rooms on Israeli Defense Force bases; and the constant caring for each and every IDF soldier.

Richard will discuss what FIDF does and how it supports Israel's soldiers. We are hoping for a guest appearance from a visiting Israeli soldier who will talk about the experience of serving in the IDF. Coffee and dessert will be served.

There is no cost for current Brotherhood members to attend this special event. Non-members will be asked for a $10 donation at the door. Please RSVP to Marc Belsky, belsk5 {at} comcast.net.

Brotherhood New Member Mixer: Tuesday, Jan. 23

Happy New Year! If you’re a new member of PTS Brotherhood, please join the Brotherhood Board for our New Member Mixer on Tuesday evening, Jan. 23.

The Mixer will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Come on by for chips & dip, some nice Hebrew National hot dogs, and coffee, tea, and soft drinks. We’d love to meet you and welcome you to Peninsula Temple Sholom. You can make new friends, learn about what Brotherhood does at PTS, and hear about our upcoming events.

This quarterly New Member Mixer is primarily for members who have joined PTS since January 1, 2006 – that is, in the past year. However, if you’ve been a Temple member, but haven’t been involved in Brotherhood recently, please join us for this social gathering. If your Brotherhood membership has expired, you can renew for 2007 “at the door.”

Remember, if you’re a new member of PTS, your Brotherhood dues are paid for first year!

The New Member Mixer will be held at Alan Zeichick’s office in San Bruno. Please contact Alan at alan {at} zeichick.org to RSVP and get the address/directions. We look forward to meeting you at the Mixer!
