A great sendoff for the kids!

Today was the last day of religious school at PTS, ending a busy 2006-2007 school year. Wow! Our kids learned so much, and grew so much this year.

While the teachers and clergy fed the young minds, PTS Brotherhood fed the kids' bodies at a wonderful end-of-year barbecue. We served hundreds of kosher hot dogs, veggie burgers, chips, salads, drinks, dessert.... delicious.

We'd like to thank the many volunteers from PTS Brotherhood, and the PTS community, who shopped, cooked, served and cleaned up for today's barbecue. We couldn't have done it without you!

The Brotherhood golf tournament is coming up on Sunday, June 3rd at Shoreline Golf Links in Mountain View, starting at 10:00 am. It would be great to have you come play with us.

Either you can wrestle up a full foursome to play (not everyone needs to be Peninsula Temple Sholom members) or we will pair everybody up.

The cost is $95 for both members and non-members. This includes golf, cart, prizes, food after, etc. You can send a check to

Please join the members of PTS Brotherhood for our next meeting on Monday evening, June 4, beginning at 6:00pm.

First, we'll congregate at Amici's East Coast Pizzeria, 69 Third Avenue, San Mateo (between El Camino Real and San Mateo Drive) for dinner and a brief meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend, as we plan events for the summer and autumn.

Then, we'll walk over to B Street Billiards for casual fun and games. The address is 164 B Street, San Mateo. Even if you can't make it for dinner, come join us at B Street. Rack 'em up!

Hope to see you there.

Meetings you don't want to miss

All members of PTS Brotherhood are invited to our annual meeting on Monday, May 7, at Max's Opera Cafe in Burlingame. We're getting together at 5:00 pm; voting for the 2007-2008 slate of officers will begin shortly after 6:00 pm. Read more in this prior blog entry.

Afterwards, please join our clergy, members and neighbors for "Exploring Themes of Faith: An Interfaith Forum." This program is jointly sponsored by PTS and by First Presbyterian Church in Burlingame. There are four sessions, all running from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm, followed by a light dessert. The first two are on Mon., May 7 and Mon., May 14, at PTS. The second two are on Wed., May 30 and Wed., June 6, at First Presbyterian (pictured).

Also, all members of Peninsula Temple Sholom are invited to our temple's 52nd annual meeting, on Wednesday, May 9, starting at 7:00 pm. It'll be held in our Lillian Byer Social Hall. The agenda includes approving the slate of trustees for 2007-2008, as well as approving revised bylaws for our temple. For more information, see the May PTS Bulletin.

Please mark your calendar for June 3, which is Brotherhood's annual golf tournament; August 8, which is Jewish Heritage Night at the San Francisco Giants. We hope to have a big group from PTS... last year, there were 150 of us there.

Tikkun Olam to the Max!

Last Sunday, April 29, marked our temple-wide Tikkun Olam Day, where the PTS community gathered to create care packages for local soldiers serving overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq. The outpouring of caring and affection for military personal from Peninsula was tangible, and wonderful.

PTS Brotherhood provided refreshments for the busy workers. We'd like to thank the men, women and children of PTS, as well as many local merchants, who donated food, toiletries and other essentials; hand-crafted artwork and notes of support; and assembled and packed boxes for about 500 local soldiers serving overseas.

I'd like to recognize Kathy Glass and Michelle Tandowsky, for their incredible effort in pulling all this together: the logistics were amazing. Plus, of course, a special thank-you to the officers and soldiers who came by Tikkun Olam Day, showing us their equipment, and talking to our adults and children about the emotional link between our troops overseas and the citizens back home.

We have two groups of photographs that document Tikkun Olam Day, one from Len and the other from Keith and Michelle. (You may have to sign in to Kodak Gallery to view the photos.)

Thank you, thank you, to all who participated.

Annual Meeting rescheduled to 5:00 pm

Due to a schedule conflict with another Temple event, we are rescheduling the Annual Meeting of Brotherhood to start at 5:00 pm on Monday, May 7. The location is the same, Max's Opera Cafe, 1250 Bayshore Highway, Burlingame.

This is the meeting where we vote for our officers for the coming year (July 2007-June 2008). We invite all Brotherhood members to attend this very important meeting. Note that the election itself will take place shortly after 6:00 pm, to accommodate members who can't get out of work early.

Learn more about what we'll be doing at this meeting in the prior blog entry, or by reading the May 2007 PTS Bulletin.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience!
