Pizza, Pool, Chinese Food and the Cantor’s Celebration

The PTS Brotherhood Board had a tremendously productive meeting last night (Oct. 2) at Max’s in Burlingame.

The biggest topic of discussion revolved around Cantor Barry Reich’s 40th anniversary celebration, coming up the weekend of October 12-14. To summarize the activities:

• Friday night: A special Hava Nashir Shabbat on Friday night honors the cantor with some special music guests – including Cantors Linda and Brian Reich — and a fabulous oneg afterwards.

• Saturday night: Bob Sarlatte (pictured) and his Butch Whacks and the Glass Packs are leading a special tribute concert and a dance. The event lasts from 7:15pm to 11:00pm.

• Sunday morning: Beginning at 10:30am, all PTS members are invited to hear a one-hour concert by Julie Silver, an internationally renowned folk singer. Her concert will be followed by a bagel brunch.

If you have not yet RSVP’d for the Saturday night event, it’s not too late to so! Contact the Temple office to sign up. The other activities don’t require RSVPs.

What else? There’s lots more!

Weekly Pirke Avot study will resume on Sunday morning, October 7, from 10:00am to 11:00am, in Rabbi Feder’s study. Brotherhood sponsors this study session (and provides coffee and bagels) — but PTS members of all gender are welcome!

• This year’s Brotherhood Pool & Pizza event takes place on Thursday, October 18, at B Street Billiards in San Mateo. We will be joined by Brotherhood members from Peninsula Temple Beth El and Congregation Sinai for this pool-and-schmooze event. No RSVP is required to attend; the cost/person is $15 to cover the pizza and hall rental. There’s a no-host bar available.

• Back by popular demand: The Monday Night Football & Poker Tournament will be on Monday, November 12. To sign up, contact Noah Cohen at noahcohen {at} pacbell {dot} net. More information is available in your October PTS Bulletin, on page 15.

• Finally, the next Brotherhood Board meeting will be on Wednesday, November 7, beginning at 6:00pm. We’re meeting at the Gao Poang restaurant, 1208 South El Camino Real (cross streets: 12th/Hobart) in San Mateo. All Brotherhood members are welcome to come, eat, schmooze, and help plan exciting Brotherhood events.
